The CHCSS00084 Lead and Support Colleagues Skill Set equips current and aspiring team leaders with practical skills to guide teams, foster positive workplace relationships, and support colleague wellbeing in challenging and demanding work environments.
Designed for coordinators, supervisors, team leaders, and managers, this skill set focuses on building leadership capabilities while promoting the interpersonal wellbeing of colleagues working in high-pressure roles. You will complete three units from the CHC Community Services Training Package, gaining practical strategies to support staff, strengthen team performance, and create a positive workplace culture. The units completed can also provide credit towards a range of Certificate IV, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma qualifications within the Community Services sector.

Why should I do this course?
The CHCSS00084 Lead and support colleagues skill set reflects the skill requirements for team leaders, coordinators, or managers responsible for directing teams and supporting the interpersonal wellbeing of colleagues working in high-pressure or demanding environments. Units in this skill set provide credit towards a range of qualifications in the CHC Community Services Training Package at a Certificate IV, Diploma, or Advanced Diploma level.
What will I study?
To complete CHCSS00084 Lead and support colleagues, 3 units will be completed from the CHC Community Services Training Package to provide a set of skills to support the wellbeing of colleagues working in stressful and demanding roles.
Core units:
- CHCMGT003 Lead the work team
- CHCMGT005 Facilitate workplace debriefing and support processes
- CHCPRP003 Reflect and improve own professional practice
Workplace Task
To complete this skill set, you must have access to an early childhood service and be able to monitor colleagues in the workplace to complete the following assessment task:
Following your service’s policies, you will observe and monitor the wellbeing of two (2) colleagues experiencing stress or an increased workload (completed one at a time over several days). You will provide appropriate support and reflect on your own professional practice.
What are the entry requirements?
This skill set is for workers who are currently employed in the early childhood education and care sector with existing experience or qualifications in community services sector roles seeking to broaden their skills. It is recommended to hold a Certificate III level qualification or higher.
Applicants should have sound language, literacy and numeracy skills and possess a Working with Children Blue Card.
Where can I study?
You are able to study throughout most locations in Queensland; however, you will need to contact the Institute to ascertain what delivery modes are available to you in each region.
What will it cost?
The course fee for the CHCSS00084 Lead and support colleagues skill set varies based on your particular situation. The full fee-for-service is $200 per unit. However, you may be eligible to access Queensland Government funding under Career Boost General Training, which costs $35 per unit or $14 per unit for concession.
Eligibility requirements for Career Boost:
- aged 15 years or older;
- not be a school student;
- permanently reside in Queensland;
- Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen.
