Where every child is valued and inspired

At Kath Dickson Toowoomba Central we are passionate about providing high-quality care in a nurturing and safe environment.

Our amazing team of long-term educators pride themselves on building strong, caring relationships with each child, helping them feel happy, secure, and truly valued. Each educator brings their own strengths to the centre, whether it is music, culture, gardening, cooking, or simply a natural gift for working with children, which enriches daily experiences in such genuine ways.

With our focus on nature and sustainability, our centre offers rich learning experiences both indoors and outdoors. Our gentle centre dog, Hazel, adds warmth and calm to our days, while our partnership with Dragon Fields brings regular visits from friendly farm animals. For the older children, our Bush Kindy program gives the chance to explore the natural world beyond our centre. These moments create magical, hands-on experiences that children carry with them long after they head home.

At Toowoomba Centra, families are supported every step of their child’s journey, and we warmly welcome you to visit us and see why families call us their child’s “home away from home”.

Our Bush Kindy program

Exploring nature, building confidence, learning through adventure.

Launched in 2025, our Bush Kindy program gives our kindergarten children the chance to experience the wonder of nature right on their doorstep. Each week, the children head out on a supervised walk with our experienced educators, to help them to develop a connection and respect for the environment.

Just a short walk from the centre, East Creek and Lake Annand become our outdoor classrooms. Along the way, children can climb trees, investigate plants and wildlife, and explore the natural materials they discover, turning every session into an adventure. These hands-on experiences build confidence, resilience, physical strength, and problem-solving skills, while also nurturing curiosity, independence, and a lifelong love of being outdoors. By connecting with nature and with one another, children feel supported, challenged, and inspired as they grow, learn, and enjoy meaningful, real-world learning beyond the classroom.

See some of our adventures on our Facebook page or call us on 4637 8001 to find out more about the program.

How is the centre managed?

Toowoomba Central is part of Kath Dickson Family Centre (KDFC), a not-for-profit, registered charity dedicated to supporting families and children. Our focus is always on the needs of the people we serve, not profit. Any funds generated are reinvested directly into programs that benefit the community, including our Toy Library, the mobile Toy Bus supporting families across SW Queensland, and playgroups. This ensures that every dollar goes toward creating meaningful, accessible services that enrich children’s early years and support families in our region.
